He was involved in some of the talks between Iran and the West about the Iranian nuclear programme.
I have known Sir Richard for many years and have been immensely impressed both by his detailed knowledge of Iran and his personal and professional integrity. I wish we had more diplomats and politicians who were as informed as he and who put truth above subservience to the Israeli lobby.
